Deepika Padukone exits Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Prabhas’ ‘Spirit’

Deepika Padukone is no longer part of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s highly anticipated film “Spirit,” which stars Prabhas in the lead. Multiple reports from industry sources confirm that Deepika’s exit comes after a series of disagreements between the actress and the film’s makers over her working conditions and contract terms.

Insiders reveal that Deepika, who recently became a mother, requested an eight-hour workday, which would effectively limit her actual shooting time to about six hours per day. She also reportedly demanded a record-high remuneration—rumored to be around Rs 20 crore—along with a share in the film’s profits. Additionally, sources claim she refused to deliver her lines in Telugu, preferring to have them dubbed instead.

These demands are said to have frustrated director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, leading to a breakdown in negotiations. The director, known for his uncompromising approach, reportedly decided to part ways with Deepika after being unable to reach a compromise. The production team is now actively searching for a new female lead to star opposite Prabhas.

The film’s shoot had already faced delays, initially attributed to Deepika’s pregnancy and later to scheduling conflicts. Although the production schedule was revised to accommodate her, the collaboration ultimately fell through due to the latest contract disagreements.

Neither Deepika Padukone nor Sandeep Reddy Vanga has issued an official statement regarding her exit. However, the news has generated significant buzz in the film industry, with speculation mounting over who will replace her in this major project.

“Spirit” is expected to go on floors later this year, with the makers aiming to finalize the new cast soon. Meanwhile, Deepika is reportedly focusing on other upcoming projects, including the sequel to “Kalki 2898 AD” and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Love & War.”
